Happy Anniversary!

Today is our anniversary... Five years of bliss. I love my wife with all my heart and don't know what I would do without her : )

I love you Jenn!

And the other redhead in my life whom I love with all of my heart!

This has become my new desktop on my work computer. How will I ever get anything done?

Sunrise

Driving to work this morning I noticed something I hadn't noticed in sometime. The sky. I see the sky everyday, but usually pay it no mind, but this morning was different somehow. I really took it in.

The sun was not quite up yet and I could just make out the outline of the rain clouds that have been covering the area for the last few days. The way the nascent sun backlight the greyish white clouds made me think. Think in that way I don't think in enough anymore. It made me think small.

When I say think small I really mean think big but to think big I first have to feel small. Those clouds, that sky, the sun made me feel human. Not the we run the world human, but human in the I am just another of many living things on this planet floating in space. I was in awe at the beauty of life.

It was a good way to start the day.

Sufjan Stevens

I bought a new CD yesterday. I haven't bought a CD in quite sometime. I have been and am a huge fan of iTunes but there is somthing about the better sound quality of CD's vs mp3's plus the tangible nature of the CD make my heart warm.

Sufjan Stevens, Illinoise, was my most recent purchase. It was recommended to me by my friend Chris as well as my Sister. Chris generally has great taste in music while my sister is either hit or miss. In this case it's a hit.

I am not here to write an album review and descirbe the sounds in some metaphorical montage that attempt to recreate the experience of the music with word pictures, but the album is wonderful. The Clown Killer song made me shiver. His haunting whispering voice is both relaxing and unnerving.

Guess who rolled over today!

Not sure if it's the beret or the baptism but something has little Sonja doing the roll! She rolled over for the first time today. I was not there to see the grand event but mom was and it sounded awesome. Just flipped those legs up in the air and let the mass of the diaper carry her onto her stomach... thing of beauty I tell you. Next trick is to learn how to roll from tummy to back, now that's freedom!

Sonja Picks a Winner!

I am proud to say that Jenn and I got to witness another Sonja first. Last night, as I was holding Sonja and talking to Jenn, Jenn looks down at Sonja and says, "Hey! Look at that!". So I look down at our beautiful daughter and there she is, her finger squarely up her nose. We of course thought it was funny and cute all at the same time, but Sonja wasn't done yet. As we began to chuckle, she removed said finger from said nose and placed it squarely in her mouth... ewww. Sonja smiled as if to say, "What? So I ate a booger, it's not like you're feeding me anything else!"

I am so proud

Defender of Freedom

Some people shouldn't be allowed to have Photoshop on their computers... I am one of those people... I couldn't help myself with this one. I think watching Kill Bill vol. 2 this weekend has somehow affected my brain. Presenting Sonja, defender of freedom, slayer of evil ninjas! Wherever there is injustice she is there, wherever there is a wrong to be righted, she is there, wherever there is a bottle of breast milk, she is there. Sonja "Defender of Freedom"!

19th Ave News

Several years ago I had put together a small neighborhood newsletter with the help of some friends. I just uncovered the first (and only) edition of said newsletter. I post it here for your enjoyment Click Here to go to the page with the .pdf file

Names have been redacted to protect the innocent.

I do have two articles from the second edition of the newsletter as well as a few other classic nuggets from long ago. I will be posting these in the upcoming days and weeks.

Sonja's first day with daddy

Since I am at home this week and have the wonderful opportunity to spend 3 whole days with Sonja I thought I would post a few photos from the experience.

Arms flexed and a grimace - Looks like one of the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz's lollipop gang

Such a beautiful daughter!

Sonja meets Great Grandpa Jack and Mom returns to work

Sonja finally got to meet my dad's dad, Grandpa Jack. The drive down was good, but when we arrived we discovered that Sonja had surreptitiously managed to fill the her diapers, pants, shirt and car seat with poop. So after a quick outfit change and a car seat clean up we were ready to meet great-grandpa. Grandpa Jack showed up a few minutes later and we had a wonderful dinner consisting of upside down pizza, goulash, grapes, strawberries, Special-K bars, Snickers salad, milk, water and Mountain Dew. Sonja seemed to like Great Grandpa good enough and he seemed to approved of Sonja. I was glad that we went down and had a chance to visit with family.

Jenn returns to work tomorrow and is not looking forward to it. I can't blame her. Going back to work was hard for me, but Jenn has had 12 weeks to spend with the little peanut so I imagine it will be 6 times harder than my return was after 2 weeks. Tomorrow is going to be a day of tears to be sure.

Like many things I am discovering about being a parent. It is crucial to take it one day at a time... some days it's important just to take it one minute at a time. Tomorrow is going to be one of those days.

So to help Mom through her day tomorrow I am going to put together a list of 7 things I love about my wife and another list with 7 things that Sonja loves about her mom.
